Recently, in the GOP primary race in Mississippi, Tea Party backed Chris McDaniel has been gaining important ground on 76-year-old incumbent Republican Sen. Thad Cochran. But today as voters exercise their rights, a new twist is coming into play.

As a report from the New York Times states today:

??Thad Cochran has made the unusual move of reaching out to black Democrats in an attempt to hold back State Senator Chris McDaniel, his Tea part-backed challenger.?

Now the twist does not stop there. With Cochran’s attempt to reach out to the black community, especially black Democrats, Tea Party activists are determined to police voting sites to assure that ?the law is being followed,? according to a Tea Party coalition advisor that spoke with The New York Times.

Also, Ken Cuccinelli, who is the president of the Senate Conservatives Fund, had this to say:

?The laws in Mississippi are unusually open to poll watching from the outside. We’re going to take full advantage of that and we’re going to lay eyes on Cochran’s effort to bring Democrats in?And of course, if they voted in primaries, that’s illegal.?

It seems the Tea Party is pulling out all of the stops in light of Cochran’s minority outreach. While his intentions may still be suspect, Cochran will need all of the help he can get as McDaniel has also had financial support from such groups as the Senate Conservatives Fund, FreedomWorks, the Club for Growth, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

While tonight’s results will show whether or not Mr. Cochran’s strategy worked, what is more interesting is the reaction by the Tea Party to this strategy. Has Mr. Cochran exposed even further one of the Tea Party’s greatest fears, people of color?

Even though this race seems to be a vote between the lesser of two evils, let us at least take this important lesson away from it: The minority vote is powerful. And in the end, it may be the only thing that stops ?organizations? like the Tea Party from setting America back 250-years.
