Nobody likes it when an important call gets sent to voicemail, but what if it was a possible life or death situation? That’s the position a man in Port Richey, Florida, was in when he called 911 during a home invasion, only to soon encounter a voicemail message.

The man’s home was invaded by four?armed?men who were looking to steal money and prescription drugs. When the homeowner called 911, the dispatcher tried to transfer the call from the fire department to the police. However, an error occurred, and he was greeted by a voicemail message which told him to “hang up and dial 911.”

While the call eventually made it through, it wasn’t until after the man had already shot one of the robbers and the others came back to the home. The robbers also injured two women who were living in the house during the encounter.

Local police authorities deny that the transfer error caused a delay in response, even though it took more than three and a half minutes after the original call for police deputies to be dispatched. The department also claims that steps are being taken to prevent something like this from happening again. However, so far they have not mentioned what any of those steps are.

Listen to the video of the 911 call, as the man first gets the voicemail, and, then, after he finally gets through:
