The rapist that left a three-year-old girl brain damaged, partially blind, and paralyzed, was released from prison Monday according to a Tacoma Washington Police Department information bulletin.
In 1990, a then 13-year-old Cory E. Roberts, was convicted of the brutal assault on the three-year-old as he was babysitting. The babysitting job was set up from an ad in the paper.
Though this heinous attack took place 24 years ago, and the girl is now 27-years-old, she is left with both the physical and psychological scars of that day forever. With the mental capacity of a 10-year-old, she must rely on the love and help from her mother to this day.
With the release of Roberts comes the fear of letting a potential repeat offender go free. Seeing that it is official record that Roberts was convicted of sexually assaulting two of his cell mates while in prison. He also admitted to ?sexually assaulting several other females both familial and non familial? while incarcerated.
While the assault on her daughter is disgusting enough, it’s facts like these that have the girl’s mother, Kelly McGinnis, wondering why Roberts is even allowed to be released. Kelly McGinnis had this to say of Roberts release:
?It’s mind-boggling that they would let this guy out. He’s a monster and he needs to be locked up.?
She also had this to say about her fear that Roberts has not changed and is still a threat:
?I’m afraid that he’s going to hurt somebody else. He’s been in prison for 24 years, and I was told he’s refused treatment for 24 years. People don’t change. I mean people who rape and beat a 3-year-old little girl almost to death.?
While a situation like this would be every parent’s nightmare, it also brings about ?questions regarding sentencing for such disgusting violent offenses committed by a juvenile, and how to go about monitoring and overseeing such an offender once released.
