So much for the argument that guns protect. A gun shop in El Cajon, California was robbed by three armed criminals ? one adult and two juveniles ? on the afternoon of June 14, San Diego’s NBC affiliate reports.

According to local police, the adult held an employee of Hiram’s Guns & Spirits at gunpoint while his two teenaged accomplices smashed display cases and removed several handguns.

Adding insult to the injury, the gun used by the robber was fake. El Cajon police described the weapon as a ?replica handgun.? Unfortunately, the gun experts at the gun shop were unable to notice the weapon carried by the robber to be a fake gun.

Saving the shop from additional embarrassment, the fake-arm armed robbers weren’t so bright, either, it seems. After Hiram’s owner called 911, police were quickly able to spot and pursue the robbers, who were dumb enough to turn their escape vehicle onto a dead-end street. The culprits were quickly arrested, and the stolen goods were returned to the gun shop.

All three arrestees were charged with armed robbery and conspiracy to commit armed robbery. The adult of the group ? 20-year-old Mykeon Menefee ? is also charged with felony evasion.

According to one who entered the shop immediately after the incident and who witnessed the robbers? escape, the owner of the store was ?extremely shaken up,? NBC San Diego reports.

At least the owner could quickly acquire a stiff drink to settle his nerves, though, or maybe use alcohol consumption as his excuse; as its name implies, Hiram’s Guns & Spirits also doubles as a liquor store.
