Republican House candidate Scott Esk of Oklahoma believes that stoning homosexuals to death is a moral thing to do, according to Facebook posts from last summer that were recently discovered by The Moore Daily. Screenshots recorded the candidate’s quotes on stoning:?”That was done in the Old Testament under a law that came directly from God and in that time there it was totally just. It came directly from God. I have no plans to reinstitute that in Oklahoma law. I do have some very huge moral misgivings about those kinds of sins.”

While Esk did express one ethical dilemma with stoning, it had nothing to do with killing innocent people and more to do with politics: “[Stoning gays] goes against some parts of libertarianism, I realize, and I’m largely libertarian, but ignoring as a nation things that are worthy of death is very remiss.” He added, “I would hope that libertarians who don’t think perversion should be punished in any way between consenting adults would be open-minded.” After finding these posts, the magazine called Esk for clarification. He stood by his original statements, saying,?I know what was done in the Old Testament and what was done back then was what’s just. ? And I do stand for Biblical morality.” Does this mean that Esk is OK with incest, polygamy and murder? Interviewer Rob Morris said that he’s never met anyone else who thinks gays should be put to?death, even in the conservative state of Oklahoma. Esk may hate homosexuality, but according to his website he’s thrilled about the new laws permitting open carry of firearms, wants to punish abortion doctors “severely” for murder, and wants to abolish laws allowing divorce for reasons of incompatibility. He also believes that states should have the right to refuse to obey federal law.

In Esk’s words,?”?rights?come from God ? not from government.”
