Deputy Jason Belmont

The Adams County Sheriff Department had one of their own arrested this week.?Deputy Jason Belmont was arrested and charged with kidnapping and raping his estranged wife.

His estranged wife informed the Aurora Police Department Tuesday night that she had been raped by Belmont according to documents obtained by 9News:

?A criminal affidavit written up by an Aurora Police detective says Belmont raped his estranged wife? The report describes a violent encounter between Belmont and his estranged wife who told detectives she repeatedly told him to stop and screamed out no.?

The criminal report stated that Belmont and his wife allegedly were arguing over the phone which escalated further when she met him in a Home Depot parking lot. The affidavit states according to ABC7 News:

?Jason Belmont finally told her that she had some mail at the S. Waco Way address and that he would also give her some money.?

When arriving at Belmont’s home, she rested on the couch while their children played outside. Belmont is then accused of grabbing her, taking her into the bedroom, and sexually assaulting her.

ABC7 News:

?The affidavit says he shut the doors, stripped naked, and began to violently remove her pants. At this time, she told the officer, she told him she was not interested and to stop.?

Also, Belmont allegedly told the victim that no one would believe her over him since he was a deputy with the Adams County Sheriff’s Department.

While removing her clothes, Belmont became angered when he found a digital recorder on her that she had been using to record their arguments. He accused her of trying to set him up.

This is when he allegedly told the victim, ?If I’m going down for this, I’m going to [expletive] the [expletive] out of you,? according to the ABC7 News report.

He is then accused of not allowing her to leave his home after raping her twice and taking her clothes.

It has been found that he also has a previous domestic-violence arrest in his past for trespassing. The affidavit also notes that the victim would not allow police to search her cellphone and is currently on probation.

Belmont’s employer is not in charge of the case as it is out of their jurisdiction.

So here are my few questions. Does the fact that the victim is on probation really matter? Should it have ever been noted in the affidavit by investigators? How will this little piece of information effect a grand jury/trial jury view on the suspect’s innocence or guilt? Although a suspect is innocent until proven guilty under our court system, how do you maintain a balance and respect for victims? rights without putting them on trial too? Will the victim in this case receive that respect?
