Police were called to the Florida home of a mental health counselor at the end of May to find a 2-year-old girl dead in a bathtub, and her mother’s ex-partner unconscious in what appears to be a murder and failed suicide attempt. An attempt was made to take the life of a 10-year-old boy but was unsuccessful.

In an apparent suicide note, police have concluded that a sermon from Genesis 22 was the spark that ignited the already emotionally unstable Kimberly Lucas.

WPTV reported:

In the note, Lucas references a sermon she had listened to the day before the alleged killing delivered by Metropolitan Community Church Pastor Lea Brown. The sermon touched on Genesis 22 where God asks Abraham to kill his son Isaac.

Kimberly Lucas and Jacquelyn Jamason, the mother of 2-year-old Elliana Lucas-Jamason, had recently ended their long-term relationship. Lucas had been in the child’s life since birth.

For those unfamiliar with the passage from the Old Testament, Genesis 22 is when God tells Abraham to make a sacrifice of his son, Isaac. Abraham makes the journey to a mountaintop, raises his knife in the air, and is stopped at the last minute by an angel and is given a lamb or ram to sacrifice instead.

Brown gave the sermon at the heartbroken Metropolitan Community Church the day before the tragedy occurred. Brown does agree that the passage from Genesis is a hard one to reconcile:

The MailOnline:

Brown claims the tale has sent people to the point of no return, and that she knew at least one person who gave up on religion because of it.

Lucas note, described as the writing of someone who is really disturbed, very broken by a family friend, revealed the effect the sermon had upon Lucas. As shared by Raw Story:

?Lea’s sermon really, really touched my yesterday, but God never told me to stop!

However, the note, which was meant to be a suicide note, also reveals a hint of blame and desire for revenge against Lucasformer partner Jamason.

In YOUR WORDS ?WHEN YOU ARE LAYING IN BED AT NIGHT REMEMBER YOU [expletive] DID THIS TOO YOURSELF.

In her last Facebook post, Lucas posted a picture of her with her children and wrote:

Those two precious souls are my life!

Lucas has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder ?nd attempted first-degree murder. A judge has denied Lucas bond.

This tragedy is truly a heart wrenching one. Though my first instinct is to demand the harshest of punishments for Ms. Lucas, it may be that this woman is truly unhinged and had a break with reality. Furthermore, I believe in respecting all religions including Christianity, but it is very scary indeed to see what an emotionally and mentally weak person can take from the Bible and run with. My thoughts are with the family of this precious little girl.
