A former Marine, father of seven, and Georgia police officer was shot and killed over the weekend in an incident outside the Waffle House in Spalding County, Georgia and the two suspects, Michael Bowman and Chantell Mixon, are in custody and charged with felony murder. A third person, Tyler Taylor, was also charged with disorderly conduct.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported:

??Griffin police only said that Bowman, Mixon, and Taylor caused a disturbance and were asked to leave the restaurant around 2:20 a.m. Saturday. An altercation spilled into the parking lot, where Officer Kevin Jordan tried to arrest Mixon.?

Officer Kevin Jordan worked often at the Spalding County Waffle House and was off-duty but in uniform at the time of the shooting. The incident occurred when the intoxicated trio caused a disturbance and Office Jordan asked the party to leave.

Raymond Jordan, the officer’s brother, was there visiting his brother when he witnessed the incident.

AJC:

?He told the television station that Bowman, Chantell Mixon, and Tyler Taylor were drunk when they came to the Waffle House? He claimed the trio used racial slurs and did not respect his brother, an ex-Marine who had been with the Griffin Police Department for four years.?

As Officer Jordan made an attempt to arrest Mixon outside in the parking lot, Bowman stood over Jordan and shot him in the back five times.

WSB-TV:

?Jordan was attempting to arrest Mixon when one of the men, Michael Bowman, fired at the officer’s back? Police believe Jordan was shot five times. At least one bullet penetrated the bulletproof vest Jordan was wearing??

Officer Jordan’s brother heard the fatal shooting and shot Bowman himself. Though a civilian, he has a permit to carry to carry and has not been charged with a crime. Bowman is in stable condition.

Raymond Jordan has only one regret. ?I don’t want to be bitter. But the only regret I have is that I didn’t kill him,? he told Channel 2 Action News.

Seven children now mourn the loss of their father who was simply trying to do his job and maintain order and peace in the community. Office Jordan was disrespected and insulted based on the color of his skin. Officer Jordan had recently borrowed money to fly his mother down to celebrate the graduation of one of his children. Now, a mother has to bury the youngest of her children.
