Want Your High School Diploma? Better Not Take A Selfie!

In the excitement and pride of walking across the stage, two high school graduates took selfies during their graduation ceremony and are now having their diplomas held by school administration at Elk Grove High in California.

Jack Budmark went to his high school to pick up his diploma and was informed he would not be receiving it.

Another graduate, Keoni Daniel, is also having his diploma held for taking a selfie.

Jack Budmark’s father, while sympathetic to the school, feels it is a bit ridiculous to hold the diploma for a selfie.

Click On Detroit reported:

?While Budmark’s dad understands the district’s desire to maintain decorum during the ceremony, he doesn’t believe it’s an issue.?

Tres Johnson:

?In the end, it’s kinda silly to hold the diploma.”

The school has stated it will allow the students to have their diplomas after visiting the principal’s office.

Fox 40 reported:

?The district told FOX40 that the boys must show up at the principal’s office with their parents, in order to receive their diplomas.?

Although it is understandable that the administration wishes to maintain etiquette and dignity during the ceremony, this is a momentous occasion that students have been spending years to obtain. Was it right to take a selfie while walking across the stage? No, not really. This incident is reminiscent of the student in Georgia having her diploma held. However, this writer understands the desire to commemorate such a special occasion and the excitement of finally being done. The school could have pulled them to the side and found some other punishment of some sort. So what do you think readers? Was the administration justified, or are they overreacting?
