Your Kids Have To Know These 7 Things About Politics

politics for kids

Most kids don’t know a lot about politics, but there are a few things that you should make sure your kids know. It doesn’t look good for them to not know the basics. You can start here with these seven things you should make sure to educate your children on about politics:

1. There are two main political parties in the United States: Democratic and Republican.

2. Our current president — Barrack Obama — is a Democrat, along with his vice president, Joe Biden.

3. Each President may only serve two elected terms of four years each. If a president dies and his vice president steps in, the vice president can finish that term and still be elected for two of his own terms.

4. Each state elects two?senators only. So this means there are 100 senators in the United States. That is the Senate.

5. Each representative is elected to a two-year term. That is the House of Representatives. How many representatives every state has depends on its population. California has 53, and some states — Alaska, Delaware, and some others — only have one.?Right now ?there are 435 representatives (three vacancies).

6. The Senate and the House of Representatives together is the U.S. Congress.

7. There are three?branches of government: legislative (Congress), executive (the president and his people), and judicial (the courts, like the Supreme Court).

It’s hard to know everything about politics and the government, but if your kids know these seven things, it’s more than most kids know.
