Rep. Ted Yoho Suggested Limiting The Right To Vote To Property Owners

A large animal veterinarian and Republican congressman from Florida, Ted Yoho — who first received recognition because of his support of the “birther” conspiracy movement — isn’t new to controversy and saying dumb things. But now, recently unearthed video footage shows that the idiotic congressman has some views that are probably making even his staunchest supporters a little uncomfortable.

The videos show?Yoho speaking at Berean Baptist Church during his 2012 candidacy for Congress. In the videos, he says that only property owners should have the right to vote and he called voting through absentee ballots a “travesty.” From Right Wing Watch:

?I’ve had some radical ideas about voting and it’s probably not a good time to tell them, but you used to have to be a property owner to vote,? he said to applause.

He’s also a huge advocate of making it more difficult to vote and supports wacko Florida Gov. Rick Scott’s (R) move to significantly reduce early voting from 14 days to eight days. But Yoho would have gone even further if he had his way.

?I think it needs to be cut less than that,? he said.

In these videos, he also suggests that he fears his own voting rights may be taken away. An audience member asked a question about the Bilderberger Group, the center of a popular conspiracy theory.

?That’s a scary question and that’s one of the reasons I’m running for Congress, because I fear for this country,? Yoho replied. ?I grew up believing in the American dream, I’m a product of the American dream, no one gave my wife and I anything?we worked our tail off and we didn’t expect anything from the government.?

?I fear for the country, two and a half years from now we may not be able to vote.?

Did he really say that he and his wife didn’t expect anything from the government? Well that’s an outright lie. Yoho and his family are former food stamp recipients. ?It seems that he has lost touch with the challenges faced by people living in poverty. Or maybe he’s like so many Republicans who fall on hard times — it’s OK for him, just not for others.

I wonder if Rep. Yoho has done any research on the demographics of his constituents? It’s likely that a lot of this nut’s supporters are renters in Florida trailer parks. As usual, it seems that he’s not thinking ahead.

Here are the videos:
