This Woman Filmed Her Abortion To Show That It’s Not Scary (VIDEO)

Abortion is a touchy subject. We all know this. There are those who are adamantly pro- life in all circumstances, those who make exceptions but are mostly pro- life, and those who are completely pro- choice. I fall into the latter group. I am completely and unapologetically pro- choice, because I know it is none of my-or anyone else’s- business what a woman does with her body.

The biggest issue with abortion is the ignorance surrounding the procedure and the many reasons women might opt to have them, versus choosing adoption or raising the child herself. However, Emily Letts has done something incredibly brave to do her part in educating people about abortion.

Being an abortion counselor herself, Ms. Letts never expected to find herself pregnant. But, despite all of her education on the subject from working in the field, she did. She knew, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that abortion was the option for her. The twist to this story that makes it different is that Ms. Letts decided to film the procedure, complete with commentary.

As you will see in the video below, this is not the horrific, dangerous, bloody procedure that anti- choice activists would have you believe. In fact, an abortion done in the first trimester is, indeed, safer than pregnancy and birth. Ms. Letts says of her decision to film her abortion:

“We talk about abortion so much and yet no one really knows what it actually looks like.?A first trimester abortion takes three to five minutes. It is safer than giving birth. There is no cutting, and risk of infertility is less than 1%.”

The 25-year-old Letts also says she wants to stop the guilt surrounding abortion, though she does feel a bit irresponsible and embarrassed for not using birth control. However, she does not feel guilty. She says of the video:

“I love how positive it is. I think that there are just no positive abortion stories on video for everyone to see. But mine is. I know there are women who feel great remorse. I have seen the tears. Grieving is an important part of a woman’s process, but what I really wanted to address in my video is guilt.”

I must agree with Letts. We are programmed by society to believe that abortion is the awful, horrible thing that we should never think of in a positive light at all, ever. I am glad that she is showing her own positive abortion experience to the world. It was an incredibly brave thing to do, and I hope that the supportive comments for her bravery outweigh the hate she is likely receiving as we speak.

Ms. Letts concludes:

“I ?am grateful that I can share my story and inspire other women to stop the guilt.”

I am grateful as well. Hats off to you, Ms. Letts. You have done a great service to women everywhere.
