This Chart Shows How Life Changed For An Average American In 100 Years

How has life for the average American changed in the last hundred years? This stunning infographic from Money Choice gives us a solid idea. Some highlights worth noting:

  • Unemployment was 6.6% in 1913. It’s?6.3% as of May 2, 2014. So hmmmm? Things being “worse than ever” seems to be a bit of a myth, at least in regards to the unemployment rate.
  • Our population has tripled since 1913.
  • Individual income growth is depressing.?It was $800 in 1913 and was $26,364 in 2013.
  • The percentage of white people in America has drastically reduced and we’re much more diverse.
  • People are living a whopping 26 years longer.
  • 96.5% of school-aged children are enrolled in school, as opposed to 59.2% in 1913. Nice!
  • We’re more educated. 28.2% of us have bachelor’s degrees, as opposed to only 2.3% in 1913.
