Some Conservatives Are STILL Defending Cliven Bundy

That breeze you may have felt last week came from the velocity with which many conservatives abandoned Cliven Bundy’s cause after the rogue Nevada rancher suggested that blacks may have been better off during the days of slavery than they are now. Yet, a number of prominent right-wingers are still rallying behind him. Here’s a sample.

  • Larry Klayman, the founder of Judicial Watch and one of the most vocal proponents of a coup against President Obama, wrote in RenewAmerica that Bundy isn’t a racist, but simply “a person who speaks what is in his mind.” Klayman also thought that the reason Bundy’s comments sounded like an apology for slavery was that he has never been exposed to the “political correctness of the city slickers in Las Vegas.” In Klayman’s eyes, the article in last Friday’s edition of The New York Times didn’t expose a racist, but “a good man” who simply “shot himself in the foot.”
  • Alan Keyes appeared on right-wing radio host Peter Boyles’ show on Tuesday, and claimed that Bundy was merely discussing his own observations about the state of the black community. He claimed that in statistical terms, blacks are worse off now than they were at any time in American history–including the slavery era. Keyes was doubling down on sentiments he expressed in an interview with WorldNetDaily in which he claimed that Bundy was actually deploring the damage that blacks have suffered as a result of Democratic policies. Incredibly, Keyes claimed that Democrats were the real racists for calling Bundy out.
  • WorldNetDaily founder and editor-in-chief Joseph Farah claims that Bundy was the victim of “a sting operation” intended to make an upstanding patriot look like a racist ogre. Incredibly, Farah keeps up this line in his latest column, even after watching the raw video of Bundy’s press conference last Thursday. I have to wonder if we were watching the same video.

The Bundy saga appears to have served one purpose. It’s revealed who among the right is willing to even appear to defend the indefensible.
