Rare Close-Up Photos Of Area 51 (IMAGES)

Getting this close to the controversial Area 51 –?a remote detachment of Edwards Air Force Base?in southern Nevada –?to take photos isn’t easy. The man who took these photos used special cameras and equipment.

When you arrive at the front gate of Area 51, you’ll start to see LOTS of warning signs.

Note the passenger of the official vehicle shielding his face from the camera. Interesting. Note the coffee mug clipped to the window. The photographer suggests that they may have to keep these outside the vehicle so that coffee doesn’t steam up the windows.

These are security cameras that use both a VHF and microwave antenna, according to the photographer. He says that all of the RF links point to Bald Mountain. Since the camera doesn’t appear to be motorized, he surmises that it points to a critical area.

The actual gate, which is hidden beyond the hills. To see it, you have to carefully climb the hill towards the west, according to the photographer. This photo was taken in 2000.
