U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) was at a conference about commuter safety on Friday when he was nearly struck down by a speeding train. The conference was being held at a train platform in Milford, Conn. and was meant to draw attention to a recent safety overhaul.

With his back to the tracks, Blumenthal said, “Safety, as you know, is paramount…” just as an Amtrak train sped through the station. Blumenthal and the man standing next to him then awkwardly tried to steady a visual aid that teetered as the train whizzed by.
