Well, the FBI has made a movie. The 25-minute movie called Game of Pawns is based on the true story of American college student Glenn Shriver, an American student who received $70,000 from Chinese officials just for applying for government jobs. They were willing to make an investment in the hopes of securing this little gem of a spy.

The movie begins with:

“Life is like a game of chess. Changing with each move. And to win the game, you must often sacrifice your pawns.”

Shriver loved Shaghai when he was studying there, but to remain, he needed a visa and a job.?He answered an ad for American writers with experience in East Asian studies. Shriver took the job and began writing papers. He was paid in cash for every paper he wrote. Eventually, he was offered?a “scholarship” for staying in the country and focusing on his studies, supposedly, but the requests become more demanding.

His got caught when he went to D.C. for an interview with the CIA, but in actuality, he was being watched by the U.S. government long before his CIA interview. He strapped his $40,000 to his abdomen and headed to the U.S. Even though he breezed through customs, at his interview with the CIA, he failed the polygraph test questions of “have you ever met with representatives of the Peoples Republic of China?” He knew he was in over head and attempted to renege on his interest in the position. The polygraph tester informed him that “this isn’t going to go away if you lied in any phase of this process.”

As he was leaving the CIA headquarters, he was panicked. He quickly booked a flight and barely caught the plane. To keep from doing a spoiler, I’ll let you guys watch the video.

I was prepared to report on a really cheesy effort to reach out to young people by yet another government agency, but this movie is well made and could honestly save a kid’s ?life. You can read the entire text of the video and read background information on the FBI website.
