I have a guilty (but unapologetic) confession to make: I like Barbara Bush. For a lot of reasons.?I vehemently refuse to hate all Republicans. I think she’s a sane voice in a whack family. In a video that was filmed at a fundraising event and annual meeting of the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literary?in Houston, ?the former First Lady affectionately discusses her husband’s obsession with crazy socks.

Other members of the Bush family enjoy the former president’s sock obsession.

Bush has been vocal about the education failures of Texas, often going against Republicans in the state. From a 2011 Houston Chronicle op-ed after Texas Republicans announced harsh education cuts:

In light of these statistics, can we afford to cut the number of teachers, increase class sizes, eliminate scholarships for underprivileged students and close several community colleges?

At a time when the?United Way?estimates that the price tag for dropouts to Texas taxpayers is $9.6 billion every year, can we really afford to cut state funding for our students?

The answer is a resounding “no.”

My favorite part of the video is at :22 when she impatiently insists that the audience sits down and stops the applause so that she can go directly to the business at hand.
