This Texas ‘Democrat’ Wants To Oust Sen. John Cornyn — And Impeach Obama

What if I told you that a candidate for Senate Minority Whip John Cornyn’s seat in Texas thinks Obama should be removed from office by any legal means necessary? That shouldn’t come as a surprise; after all, this is Texas, where two and possibly three GOP candidates for lieutenant governor?want to make it legal to essentially desecrate a corpse. Now what if I told you that candidate wasn’t a Republican, but is supposedly Democrat Kesha Rogers?

Even though Cornyn was held to only 54 percent of the vote in his 2008 reelection bid, no big names stepped up to challenge him in 2014. One of the people who did step up was?Rogers, a longtime activist from Houston. There’s just one problem — Rogers is not a real Democrat. She’s a loud-and-proud follower of Lyndon LaRouche, the grand old man of conspiracy theorists. In fact, she is a full-time organizer for the LaRouche youth movement.

LaRouche, for those who don’t know, is an eight-time presidential candidate who claims the United Kingdom secretly controls everything–including nearly every president since FDR (with the exception of Kennedy)–and that the world’s economy is on the verge of meltdown unless we accept his leadership. He claims that the world is controlled by a massive conspiracy of Zionists, bankers and the British. For more about LaRouche, check out an excellent 1989 dossier about him by Chip Berlet called “Fascism Wrapped in an American Flag.” Also worth a read is a 2004 article from the Washington Post Magazine about his last run for president, in 2004.

Rogers has been the enfant terrible of the Texas Democratic Party since she tried to run for state party chair in 2006. Her platform has remained more or less the same since then.?She denies global warming, wants to colonize Mars and claims Obamacare is a kissing cousin to a Nazi-era program. She frequently puts out campaign posters showing Obama with a Hitler mustache, and calls for him to be removed from office–either by way of impeachment or being declared insane in accordance with the 25th Amendment. In 2010, she was the Democratic candidate in TX-22, the old Tom DeLay district, despite being completely disavowed by the state party.? Undaunted, she ran again in 2012, and was seen on the street singing “25th Amendment now, he is nuts–Obama is nuts!”

Despite this, Rogers managed to finish second in the first round of the Democratic primary behind Dallas doctor David Alameel, taking 22 percent of the vote to Alameel’s 47 percent. It’s a pretty safe bet that had more people known that Rogers is a LaRouchie, the May 27 runoff wouldn’t have even taken place. Even some cursory vetting would have not only turned up the 2010 statement officially disavowing her, but also this lovely video set to the tune of “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.”

Small wonder that the state party has doubled down on its 2010 statement by explicitly urging Democratic primary voters not to vote for Rogers. And with good reason. Wendy Davis has an uphill battle to win the governorship, and it’ll be that much more difficult without credible candidates downballot. Additionally, the national party needs credible candidates for every Senate seat.
