Has it not been fairly conveyed, by the Ron & Rand Paul brand, that their position all this time was for America to stay out of foreign affairs. In fact, their collective rhetoric, of not being in the nation building business brought them much support from liberals, independents, libertarians and some conservatives.

I recall in the last election cycle Ron Paul being booed off the debate platform by warmongering Republican neo-cons and the Tea- Party crowd.

Kentucky senator Rand Paul has long been a mirror of his fathers view on this issue. However, since the current crisis in the Crimea, Rand Paul’s position has been like ” chaff in the wind,” incoherent and all over the place. In a recent,?Time op-ed article, Paul came out blazing, stating, that if he were the president, he would take a stronger position than President Obama.

“Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine is a gross violation of that nation’s sovereignty and an affront to the international community”

He went on to say that Russian president Putin should be isolated for his actions in that region. This is a complete u-turn and very much out-of-character for this self-proclaimed anti-war libertarian. Rand Paul has been on record for opposing military actions in Syria and Iran.

Basically, Rand Paul has cried out that Russian President Vladimir Putin ” must be punished,” for violating the Ukrainian government and people’s freedoms and sovereignty. In addition, he implied that President Obama is not up for the job. Lastly, saying:

” If I were president, I would not let Vladimir Putin get away with it.”

What a difference 24 hours makes. In a?Brietbart op-ed?, wrote by Rand Paul himself entitled?“Stop Warping Reagan’s Policy,”?Paul?took on his more normal dovish tone, calling for a?“strategic use of soft power.” ?Senator Paul, who is a leading candidate for the 2016 presidential run for the Republican party was undoubtedly taking pot shots at his GOP political rivals. Paul wrote:

” What we don’t need right now is politicians who have never seen war talking tough for the sake of their political careers.”

What is perplexing, however, is the history of Rand Paul. Rand Paul rode the coat-tail of his deep-pocketed daddy the former senator from Texas and now retired Ron Paul. In addition, he [Rand Paul] caught the wave of the Tea Party into the U.S. Senate. Let’s get the facts straight. All in all, Rand Paul has zero international experience. From the onset, he just like his libertarian father Ron Paul has held the position that America should mind its own business and stop trying to solve the world’s problems. The Paul’s have used this anti-war footing to garner support from the anti-government crowd linking it to government over-reach. Soon after taking office, Rand Paul introduced legislation to cut defense spending and to close bases over-seas. Needless to say, this did not sit well with Republican party elites and his legislation died a quick death.

Many Have Proclaimed Rand Paul As A Isolationist!

I will speak as long as it takes, until the alarm is sounded from coast to coast that our Constitution is important, that your rights to trial by jury are precious, that no American should be killed by a drone on American soil without first being charged with a crime, without first being found to be guilty by a court. That Americans could be killed in a caf? in San Francisco or in a restaurant in Houston or at their home in Bowling Green, Kentucky, is an abomination. ( Rand Paul, R-Ky)

With the 2014, off-year elections warming up and the 2016 elections on the horizons, which factions within the GOP will Rand Paul clamor to? Will he follow the unsuccessful path of his anti-war, anti-government father, or will he try to play both ends across the middle? But, if this current crisis in the Crimea is any indication of what is to come from Rand Paul, we are seeing a total and complete disarray of any solid fermented stance which begs the question, ?Is it a hawk? Is it a dove? No, it’s Rand Paul’s foreign policy.
