Will Human Reading Speed Reach Astronomical Levels?

A leap forward in the ability of humans to read at an astounding rate of speed is now on the market. This new technology that can be worn and will help increase the speed of your reading may become a fashionable piece of eye-wear seen throughout the human tribe and this may be very attractive to readers of all sorts of things.

The maker of the new technological breakthrough will be Samsung. A new phrase has been coined to encompass the nature of this new advance. “Optimal Recognition Point” (ORP) is the basis of this rocket speed reading device moving the text rather than requiring the eye to move across the material to be read. ORP lines up words just left of the center of each word, keying in on the point that the brain uses to comprehend a group of letters as a word. ?Use the animations below to test Spritz yourself.

Spritz is the company that came up with this technological advance and hails from Boston. ?This new device can be set for reading speeds of 100 to 1,000 words a minute. The principle of moving the words instead of requiring the eye to move to read words means that nearly 80 percent of the time we spend reading now will be saved. This method of streaming the words will mean a significant increase in the speed and ease of reading according to Spritz developers.

Frank Waldman, co-founder and CEO of Spritz says “We have people reading books, and we test them, and they score higher when asked questions. So, you know, it’s not an academic study. It’s just done by us to make sure that, you know, we know that people can do it.”

The developers of this unique approach to reading have undertaken no scientific tests of comprehension, but they feel confident that those using their device are taking in the information.

The Spritz CEO further elaborated, “There is a reading speed for comprehension that’s optimal for each person, and of course, everyone’s brain is different. You know, the figure you’ve seen quoted in a lot of stories is 1,000 words a minute, and we have a guy whose reading 1,000 words a minute with perfect comprehension. I’d say he’s a rare case. Other people read with great comprehension, at 350 to 400 words a minute, which is almost double their normal reading speed. And that’s enough. You don’t have to read a book in an hour.”

The techie company sees great opportunity in helping websites with their analytics by streaming the site’s text. By offering the opportunity for website users to utilize the Spritz application the businesses will be aware of those reading their text because they will be actively streaming it.

Will the pleasure of reading a book disappear?

There are two questions that skeptics are asking. Is there a significant level of comprehension when using this new technology and does this new approach to reading have an ability to increase comprehension levels? These questions at this point cannot be answered, as little data has been gathered yet, but it shouldn’t take long once people start using this new application and device to answer at least one of those questions.

This may not really be a question, but some insist that the idea of reading for pleasure is something that will never be eliminated from the list of things that we humans do for fun, enjoyment or escape.
