Even Lou Dobbs At FOX Has Grown Weary Of Louie Gohmert’s Tea Party Antics

In an interview with Texas Tea Party Republican Congressman Louie Gohmert, FOX Business Network’s Lou Dobbs finally had enough of Gohmert. Dobbs launched into a six-minute verbal tirade, chastising Gohmert for his lack of political pragmatism. Dobbs scolded Gohmert and many of his fellow House Republicans for bucking speaker Boehner and refusing to pass an increase in the debt ceiling to pay debts the U.S. government has already incurred. 199 House Republicans went against the Speaker of the House and refused to pass a pragmatic debt ceiling increase. Dobbs, impatient with the Tea Party’s approach to governing, finally let Gohmert have it. At one point, Dobbs stated:

You know as well as I do that half of the bills you’re passing are pure ? and I think I may generous in my percentage ? are absolutely political theater because you know they will die in the Senate, you know that a Democrat president will kill them. What do you expect to do when you are in the majority in one branch of government??It seems to me that this is a colossal waste.

The fact that Gohmert has become too extreme even for the xenophobic, stridently anti-Obama, FOX Business host, Lou Dobbs, is a testament to how far to the right the House GOP caucus has veered. Dobbs, who once hosted a show on CNN, was released by the network shortly after Barack Obama was elected. His anti-Obama rants at CNN cost him ratings and eventually cost him his job. He then resurfaced on FOX, the right-wing cable news rival to CNN. Now Dobbs has turned on the Tea Party, because he recognizes their childish approach to governing is nothing but ineffectual political theater at a time when the nation craves political leadership. Louie Gohmert and so many of his Tea Party companions in the House of Representatives, have turned Congress into a side-show. Gohmert has become a cartoon character in the GOP House drama that is part tragedy, part farce. While Gohmert may still delude himself into thinking his obstructionist behavior is still relevant, even the FOX Business Network has decided to mock him in a face to face interview. Gohmert is merely an actor in a prolonged rendition of political theater. Voters in November should drop the curtain on Gohmert and the Tea Party, and bring the theater to an abrupt ending this year.
