CNN’s Love Affair With A White Supremacist

Frank Taaffe, the mainstream media’s favorite George Zimmerman apologist, is again making the rounds on Cable television, especially on CNN and its partner network Headline News. The fact that Taaffe is a hardcore racist does not deter CNN from giving him a forum. Apparently, part of balanced news coverage requires that the White Supremacist viewpoint be given equal time with that of reasonable non-racist people.

How else do you explain CNN’s love affair with Frank Taaffe? During the George Zimmerman trial for the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, Taaffe appeared on Dr. Drew’s show 14 times, on Nancy Grace 22 times, and on Jane Velez-Mitchell’s show 29 times. His “expertise” was also solicited and featured on Anderson Cooper 360, Erin Burnett Out Front and John King USA.

Now that Zimmerman is back in hot water, CNN and HLN have brought Taaffe back on the air to defend George. Taaffe alleges that George Zimmerman’s girlfriend is opportunistic, just as he defamed Trayvon Martin and Jordan Davis (who was murdered one year ago today by Michael Dunn) as “thugs”.

CNN doesn’t seem to be bothered by the fact that Frank Taaffe hosts a White Power podcast or that on one episode his co-host expressed his hope that all white women who married black men would meet “the same fate as Nicole Brown Simpson”. To which Taaffe responded:

I don’t want to see that happen to them but?like I always say, you lie down with dogs you’re going to get fleas?especially if they’re black dogs.

Taaffe has been an ardent defender of George Zimmerman’s right to shoot Trayvon Martin, but CNN never bothers to point out that as a white separatist, his qualifications are pretty much limited to his expertise at seeing the world through a racist lens. Now of course, he is apparently qualified to wax poetic about how George Zimmerman is being oppressed by his girlfriend.

Taaffe’s expertise on domestic violence is probably about equal to his expertise on legal matters, although I suppose his lengthy arrest record for battery, domestic violence, trespassing and a litany of other offenses, does give him some sort of “expert” perspective.

CNN’s journalistic integrity jumped the shark long ago, but if they continue to have a love affair with a vicious racist and a domestic abuser, and continue to give him a forum to express his point of view they, like FOX News (which also has a fondness for hosting Taaffe on their programs), should be relegated to the list of networks that have lost any semblance of credibility.
