Racist MT County Treasurer And School Superintendent Refuses To Resign

Max Lenington wears many hats in Yellowstone County, Montana. He is the County Treasurer, the Assessor, and the Superintendent of Schools. He also could just as well wear a white hood, because in addition to serving in all those positions, Max Lenington is also a racist.

For the past year, he has been using his government e-mail account to circulate racist remarks, and county commissioners are now calling for his resignation. Lenington, however, refuses to go. At issue is a number of racist e-mails that Lenington circulated, including one sent shortly after the November 2012 election that lamented that the reason Barack Obama won was because:

?there are more lesbians, queers, Indians, Mexicans and niggers than the rest of us!

He also channeled his inner Rand Paul and the Billings Gazette alleges that he plagiarized two letters to the editor which he submitted to multiple newspapers including one titled ?Why I Hate Barack and Michelle Obama?.

Yet, despite clear evidence that Lenington used his government e-mail accounts to promote racist hate speech, Lenington refuses to leave unless the county offers a 90,000 dollar buyout for him to depart. County officials however, do not seem interested in subsidizing Lenington’s racism. Although Lenington argues that he is the victim of “the liberal left-wing news media”, the truth is that he is a victim of his own ignorance and hateful bigotry.

63 percent of Yellowstone County voters want him removed from office. Lenington is not fit to represent the county is any capacity, and his bigoted views certainly render him unqualified to be the Superintendent of Schools. Lenington can argue about how unfair it is to remove him from office, but his cries should fall on deaf ears, because getting rid of him is the right thing for the county to do.
