Area 51 Document Declassified

In August of this year, the government finally admitted to the existence of Area 51, a long- speculated extra-terrestrial crash site in Roswell, New Mexico, off of the Extraterrestrial Highway. Shortly after, however, it was shown that Area 51 was not the site of an alien crash; rather it was a military base that held secrets and equipment to fight the Cold War.

Last week, a senior fellow with George Washington University’s National Security Archive, George Richelson , released a new e-book detailing more than 60 declassified documents that he filed for release from the government. The articles reveal how the Air Force used Area 51 for Cold War stealth programs in the 70’s and 80’s and hid Soviet MiG fighter jets.

Many of the documents just put solidity to the already speculated theories of Area 51; however, some give very interesting facts on why this has been a secret for so long. The information contained in those sixty some pages of once classified information talk about why it was so important to keep 51 a secret, as well as the testing of reconnaissance aircrafts that were kept on this base.

Though many were disappointed that these documents did not lead to a giant spacecraft that had crashed into the New Mexico dessert long ago, the fact that the American Government used NASA satellites to collect intel, in order to gain edge during the Cold War is very interesting. Especially given all of the recent whistle blowing of our own personal plight with American government spies.

One exert from Richelson’s e-book, collected from the introduction stated:

Also represented in the posting is another type of activity at Area 51- the exploitation of covertly acquired Soviet MiGs. Included is a 300-page Defense Intelligence Agency report on the exploitation of the MiG-21, a project titled HAVE DOUGHNUT. Other documents concern the exploitation effort concerning two MiG-17s, efforts named HAVE DRILL and HAVE FERRY.

Slowly information is being released about important, historical, conspiracy theories that have plagued the movies and stories since the 70?s. Since we now know Area 51 is no more than a secret government Cold War military base, I wonder where the space ship actually landed, but maybe Area 51 is a little older than what we think…
