The Truth About The Colorado Secession Vote And The Tea Party

There are over three million?registered voters in the State of Colorado.? There are sixty three counties in the State of Colorado. On Tuesday, November 5, 2013, eleven Colorado counties voted on Ballot Question 1A, a measure asking voters in those eleven counties if they wanted to secede from Colorado to form the fifty first State.? Six of the counties voted the ballot question down.? Five of the counties voted in favor of the secession amendment.

registered voters

Just how many voters said yes in the six counties voting to secede? 6,259 Coloradans voted yes?in the five counties passing the ballot question to secede.? Because of the 28,107 yes votes in Weld County, which voted down the ballot question, 37,641 voted in favor of secession in the counties that did not pass Ballot Question 1A. This makes a total of 43,900 of the 3,014,253 voters registered in Colorado as of August, 2013.

The combined total of yes votes in the five counties that passed the 51st State secession initiative represents about 0.02 percent of all Colorado registered voters.?Add in the yes votes in the six counties that did not pass the secession question, and the percent of all Colorado registered voters who voted to secede rises to less that 1.46 percent.

The Teabully movement, as reported by LiberalAmerica.org, exploded onto the scene in 2009, following the inauguration?of a certain African American President, Barack Hussein Obama.? Unbiased, factual analysis of the Teabully movement shows that it never was a grassroots movement of average American voters working together for the betterment of all.? LiberalAmerica .org has shown that the Teabully movement has been rigged by the same right wing billionaires and corporate raiders who have for years been playing the system, taking democracy away from the people, while destroying the Middle Class. We have also pointed out that Teabully popularity is on the decline,?hopefully headed towards the dust bin of history.

time

Our previous coverage of the 2013 Colorado elections has pointed out the futility of the effort to secede from the State of Colorado, as the Constitution?of the United States does not allow a few counties in a State to do this on their own.? So then, what do we make of the failed before it ever started effort by eleven Northern Colorado counties to form a separate 51st State?

There are several important lessons to be learned.? One to be learned is that when it comes to Teabullies, they will say and do anything in order to convince the base of the movement’s followers that they are fighting to protect their interests.? A classic case of the ends justifies the means.? And the Teabully movement will ignore established law, established traditions, and both State and the United States Constitutions, all things that they claim to revere, in order to get what they want. When Laws and Constitutions don’t fit into their world view, Teabullies are the first in line to change or amend them.

Another lesson is that we should not allow the shrill, the loud, and the political hucksters?in the Teabully movement to fool us into believing that what they stand for is normal, mainstream, or popular.? This movement has been with us in different forms, under different names, on the fringes of American political society, for a long time.? For a good read on what the Teabully movement really is, try Wrapped In The Flag, by Claire Connor Mork. And we here at LiberalAmerica.org have also covered the connection between the Teabully movement and the far right wing ideology?that it represents.

Early this past September, two Democratic State Senators, Senate President John Morse, from the 11th District, and Angela Giron, from the 3rd District, were recalled?and ousted from their seats.? The recall movement was orchestrated and funded largely by the NRA, over the new common sense gun laws that Colorado passed and signed into law in response to the recent Aurora movie theater tragedy.?The attempt to recall a third Colorado Democratic State Senator, Evie Hudak, from the 19th District, had failed to get enough valid signatures to get on the ballot in September.?No matter, as the loud and committed minority, backed by the NRA and the gun lobby, is?again attempting to subvert the will of the voters, and once again is attempting to recall the Senator.

Recall is essentially impeachment of an elected official, allowing the voters to remove?the official before the end of his or her term in office. Of the thirty-eight recall elections of State Legislators in U.S. history, twenty have occurred in the last ten years.?Prior to the attempt orchestrated by Democrats to recall Wisconsin Republican Governor Scott Walker, in 2012, there had only been two successful recalls of a State Governor in U.S. history.

The effort to recall Governor Walker in Wisconsin failed. Many Democrats, who disagreed with the Governor and his policies, did not support the recall attempt as they did not believe that recall was an appropriate step to take, absent any evidence of an impeachable offense. The effort also failed because the recall effort was outspent by Governor Walker and his supporters who spent 45.6 million dollars while Democrats spent only 17.9 million dollars.

The final lesson to be learned from the Colorado elections is that as far as the Teabully movement is concerned, democracy, elections, and the will of the people, do not matter. From the United States Senate, to the smallest county in the State of Colorado, the Teabully movement will stand in the way, using money as power to overturn the popular vote.

We must resist the influence of the Teabully movement by staying involved and showing up in droves for every election local, State, and Federal.
