Right-winger believes DADT repeal proves President Obama’s no Christian
The birther schtick’s nearly played out. So, extreme right-wingers like U.S. Rep. Steven Palazzo, R-Miss., are accusing President Barack Obama of being a Christian-hating heathen, according to rightwingwatch.org. After all, Obama repealed ?Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.?
Palazzo is an Army veteran, who represents the 4th District, the home of Camp Shelby. He says:
Basically I don’t believe [President Obama] shares the same Christian faith that we do because he’s allowing his minions, his political appointees to do this. I mean he’s repealed ?don’t ask, don’t tell? in the military. It was a policy that was working.
Palazzo claimed, during an American Family Association One News Now interview, the president is targeting Christians. He decried that the Army’s classification of the Tupelo, Miss.-based AFA as a hate group. Palazzo believes the organization is ? all about the family, all about Christian principles.?
Palazzo sent a letter, which fellow U.S. Reps. Greg Harper and Alan Nunnellee, as well as U.S. Sens. Thad Cochran and Roger Wicker of Mississippi signed, to Army Secretary John McHugh. Palazzo alleged an anti-Christian conspiracy was afoot.
I do believe there’s an agenda out to make America secular and to ridicule and demagogue great groups such as AFA,” said the congressman. “So we’re not going to stand idly by and allow … the Army or other groups to attack such a great organization.”
While the AFA claims that it’s dedicated to Christian principles, spokesman Bryan Fischer and other mouthpieces, including AFA Michigan Chapter President Gary Glenn, constantly say things that make you go hmmm. Well, more like, WTF?! Fischer has called Christians “the new Blacks” and compared them to Dred Scott. He also lamented that they’d become victims of new Jim Crow laws.
The Southern Poverty Law Center, which tracks hate groups, highlights some AFA gems. Glenn shared this ?profound statement? in 2001:
As with smoking, homosexual behavior’s ?second hand’ effects threaten public health?.Thus, individuals who choose to engage in homosexual behavior threaten not only their own lives, but the lives of the general population.
