Fox news, during a half?hour health and wellness show called ?A Healthy You and Carol Alt,? the real truth about GMO?s was made known to the public. Shocking, I know. Fox news is not really the news outlet that you would foresee bringing such a controversial topic to light.
Organic health advocate, Max Goldberg, was brought on as a guest speaker and put the reality of the dangers of GMO?s in the spotlight. Talking to Carol Alt about GMO studies, Goldberg stated:
No long-term studies have ever been done on humans, but when you look at the studies that have been done on animals, it?s pretty appalling. You?re talking about liver damage and kidney damage and when they fed it to hamsters, the third generations of hamsters weren?t able to produce babies, so there?s a real safety issue.
Goldberg went on to explain a brief history of GMO?s and explain that GMO?s are a new type of food never seen on this planet. He prominently let the public know that GMO?s were not, initially, created to solve the world hunger problem as so many opponents claim. Instead they were created to sell more chemicals.
Plants grown from GMO seeds are immune to all types of pesticides, making them invincible in almost any farming scenario. This seems like a good idea, however, the side effects that are being hidden from the public, make them a serious risk to our health and to our future. Even worse, we have no idea when we are eating them since all opportunities to label genetically modified organisms have been quickly shut down by the government. When discussing the labeling of GMO?s with Alt, Goldberg said:
The real big issue in our country Carol is that genetically modified foods are not labeled, so people do not know that they are eating genetically modified foods. Over 60 counties around the world require GMOs to be labeled but the U.S. does not. And why is that? According to the Food and Water Watch, the Ag-Bio tech industry, which owns all these GMOs, has spent $572 million on campaign contributions and lobbying to make sure that they don?t get labeled.
This startling story does not come as a surprise to organizations like Mom?s Across America and The Non-GMO Project, but for those who relied solely on media?s like Fox News; this is a real eye opener. Fox, after firing two reporters in the past for attempting to cover GMO related stories, seems to have turned back, realizing GMOs are something that poses a great danger to society.
