Virginia Women Are Tanking Ken Cuccinelli In Gov. Race

Ken Cuccinelli, Republican,?appears headed for a lopsided defeat in the Virginia Governor’s race. With the election just one week away, Democrat Terry McAuliffe has opened up a 51-39 lead over Cuccinelli.

The race is close with male voters, with Cuccinelli leading by a mere point, 45-44. However, women voters are ready to sink Cuccinelli’s chances. He trails with female voters 58-34. By choosing Ken Cuccinelli and a slate of extremist candidates, the Virginia Republican Party chose to make Virginia a key battlefield in their war on women. They chose poorly. Women are about to deliver Cuccinelli a demoralizing defeat.

Although Cuccinelli is trying to soften his image with female voters, his opposition to abortion, even in cases of rape and incest, and his support for a fetal personhood amendment that could ban many forms of birth control, are decidedly unpopular with women voters. The latest poll ought to serve as a reminder to the GOP that as they wage war on women’s reproductive choices they do so at their own political peril. Women will sink Cuccinelli’s gubernatorial campaign.

The question is no longer who will win the Virginia Governor’s race, but the question has, instead, shifted to what the margin will be. More importantly, Republican strategists now fear that Democrats may sweep every statewide race on the ballot from Governor on down. Given that they picked a fight with Virginia’s women, that fear could very well become a reality.

Women vote, and they are about to send a message to the Virginia GOP and to the national Republican Party. That message is: “You want a war? Bring it on! We are ready to take you down.”
