Steve Stockman Talks Impeachment And Michael Cole Has A Suggestion

The competition for the dimmest bulb in Congress is fierce with Michele Bachmann, Steve King, Ted Yoho, MarkWayne Mullin, Kerry Bentivolio, and Vicky Hartzler all competing feverishly in the dubious race to be the most outrageous right-wing loon in the House of Representatives. However, Steve Stockman of Texas always seems up to the challenge, and he is once again making his bid to be recognized at the top of the Tea Party pyramid as the dimmest right-wing bulb in the House.

Mr. Stockman is apparently stockpiling copies of Aaron Klein and Brenda Elliott’s book Impeachable Offenses: The Case For Removing Barack Obama From Office to distribute to all of his fellow representatives in the US House of Representatives. He believes every member of Congress needs to read that book.

Impeachable Offenses is distributed by WND (World Net Daily) Books and is chock full of the usual right wing conspiratorial tripe that you would expect from such a disreputable source. The flimsy case for impeachment revolves around typical Republican concerns like Obamacare, illegal immigration, and Benghazi. An executive order that delayed the deportation of undocumented workers may indeed be controversial, but it hardly constitutes legal grounds for impeachment. Yet, “it seems to be de facto amnesty without congressional approval” is the crux of Klein’s case for impeachment. While this weak rationale for impeaching the president is no doubt compelling to Steve Stockman, it is hardly a strong case that will convince constitutional scholars, or for that matter, more sensible members of Congress on either side of the aisle.

The authors of the book may fancy themselves journalists or investigators, but World Net Daily is not a serious news site. Aaron Klein’s articles on the WND web site include such scholarly gems as “WND Exclusive: Is Obama Biblical “Lord of the Flies?” and “‘Manchurian President” Ushering in Islamic Caliphate“. Although Klein and Elliott are conspiracy mongers rather than legitimate journalists, Congressman Steve Stockman has hitched himself to their crazy wagon, and he wants the rest of the US House to join in him in his descent into apocalyptic rhetoric and delusional madness.

In an interview with Liberal America, Steve Stockman’s likely 2014 Democratic opponent, Michael Cole, commented on Stockman’s impeachment rhetoric, by stating:

I would suggest before Stockman tries to impeach Obama for not performing his Constitutional duties he look at performing his.

Considering that Mr. Stockman was so eager to plunge the U.S. Economy into tailspin by voting for default, Cole’s advice should be heeded by the Congressman. However, given Stockman’s allegiance to far right extremists and his willingness to be used as a tool by conspiracy nuts, that advice will almost certainly fall upon deaf ears. East Texas deserves better than Steve Stockman.
