NAACP President Keeps Promise To Little Girl (VIDEO)

The youngest ever President and CEO of the NAACP, Benjamin Jealous, has decided to resign as of December 31 of this year?in order to keep a promise made to his little girl.

He had originally made the pledge to appease her, but she reminded him promptly at his five-year mark that his time was up. Shortly after that promise expired, Jealous released plans to step down gracefully stating,

Leadership knows when to step up and when to step down. This day I can say with pride that I am prepared to step down and make room for the next person who will lead this organization to its next chapter.

Benjamin Jealous originally took office in 2008, during some of the worst financial times the NAACP has ever seen. The organization was in the red financially and seemed to be stuck in a holding pattern when it came to donations and supporters. Jealous, quickly moving into action, brought supporter numbers from just over 16,000 in 2007, to over 132,000 to date. They made it out of the red and have sat that way for the last five years. Benjamin Jealous brought an important organization, financially hit by our economic times, back into an active role with his intuitive look on financials and fresh young ideals.

Beyond financials, Benjamin Jealous stood to unite the NAACP with current discrimination and minority causes such as LGBT issues, education, the death penalty, and other hard hitting matters. Jealous has been credited for bringing the NAACP together to fight for the equality of all in this country. His most publicized achievements include his hard work and dedication to the Trayvon Martin case and his dedication to giving a voice to death row inmate, Troy Davis. Though not widely publicized, Benjamin Jealous paved the way for a prosperous continuation of work on ending the death penalty and increasing voting participation throughout the country.

Currently there is no word of who will be stepping into the next Presidential role for the NAACP, however, Benjamin Jealous has done an outstanding job paving the way for prosperity and change through this and other important human rights venues.
