Three Year Old Dies After Shooting Herself At Yellowstone (Video)

Today, two parents are coping with the death of their three year old daughter, who reportedly shot herself with her father’s loaded gun at Yellowstone National Park.

Just four years ago, attached as an amendment to an overhaul of credit card regulations, a law was passed allowing guns to be carried into National Parks and wildlife reserves. This law opened the door for any visitor to bring both loaded and unloaded weapons anywhere in the park, including highly populated common camping areas.

Little information is known, as of yet, to the details surrounding the incident but the girl’s mother called emergency dispatchers immediately after the shooting. Once on the scene, there was little that could be done and emergency technicians were unable to revive the toddler. Authorities have not released the girl’s name and have declined comment on whether the shooting was deliberate or accidental.

Though it is currently legal to carry a gun into national parks and reserves, it is illegal to discharge a firearm in a national park.? The question still remains, why bring a loaded weapon into a highly populated camp ground on a family trip to Yellowstone? Russell Lahrmann, a frequent visitor to national parks and a gun owner, commented on the 2009 gun law saying??It’d be like carrying around a bowling ball – you could do it, but why would you??

Yellowstone National Park is known for its open beautiful lands, towering mountains, and gorgeous blue lakes. Millions of people flock to the park each year to enjoy its untouched wonder and splendor. This incident marks the first time in 75 years that a child has been fatally wounded from a gunshot in Yellowstone, and the first fatal shooting since 1978.

There has been no word as to whether this incident will trigger stricter country-wide gun laws for these government lands but an outcry for this child has already begun to make its way to national headlines.
