Unemployed Black Woman Poses As White, Jobs Suddenly Pour In (VIDEO)

David Packman, along with is own personal tale of discrimination, reported on a story of a long-term unemployed black woman who experienced racial discrimination during her two-year job search.

Yolanda Spivey applied for 300+ jobs to no avail. With ten years of experience in the insurance industry, she decided to go back to college and finish her degree thinking that would help. Still nothing.?The online job search site she was using, Monster.com, had a ‘diversity’ question on the application. Spivey had been checking ‘black’ under race. Since she wasn’t getting any response, she tried leaving it blank. Nothing.

So Yolanda Spivey decided to try something different. She decided to apply as a white woman. She changed her name to ‘Bianca White’ and guess what? She got completely different results. She began getting job offers.

Here is the David Packman Video:

We’d like to think that coming up against racial?discrimination when’seeking?a job or housing is a thing of he past. Sadly, it still exists today, and in some areas has not changed. It’s harder to get away with racial, sexual, and age discrimination these days, especially when you can easily tape it on your cell phone videos. Online — it’s not so easy.

Here is an older PSA (Public Service Announcement) video of a man imitating different ethnic voices/accents, while inquiring about an apartment for rent. Until he appears to sound white, he is continuously rejected.

The coldness in the woman’s voice on the phone — she is screening with blatant discrimination — gets my blood boiling and my heart racing. I’m thinking — why couldn’t she at least be kind in her rejection? I don’t understand that kind of hatefulness.

There are times when I don’t see how much has changed. That’s when I have to remind myself that we have made progress and we have gotten better. Things have changed, but often by the time we see a change, it’s as if it should have existed all along. When an unemployed black woman doesn’t have access to the same jobs as white women, it seems that we still have a long way to go.
