The California Teenager That Republicans Need To Watch In The 2014 Election

17-year-old Democratic candidate Jacob Daruvala is gunning for a Republican’s seat in California, and he could actually win it.

Tired of the same old politics? If you live in California’s 60th State Assembly district, you’ll have a fresh face to vote for when election day 2014 rolls around. As announced by Young Progressive Voices in a press release on Friday, this 17-year-old Democratic State Assembly candidate is gunning for Republican Eric Linder‘s seat … and it looks like Linder had better start watching his back.

First of all, the 60th district covers California’s Riverside County – an economically depressed area just southeast of Los Angeles also known as “the Inland Empire” – that could sure benefit from Democratic policies. Also, Jacob Daruvala?is?one of those liberal social media and tech-savvy millennials Republicans worry so much about, and he’s got a serious campaign going on, complete with a facebook page, website, twitter feed, and some pretty danged well-written press releases.

Despite the 17-year-old Norco High School senior’s youth, Jacob Daruvala qualifies for his party’s nomination because he turns 18 in January.? According to his website and a press release sent to Liberal America, Daruvala’s impressive accomplishments include working for congressional candidate Boyd Roberts, serving as Norco City Council Candidate Stephen McArron’s campaign manager; co-founding the voters’ rights activist group Adopt-A-Voter.com, and contributing articles to the insurgent millennial politics website, YoungProgressiveVoices.com.

Daruvala’s campaign focuses on core liberal issues, like education, transportation and the economy, because:

?Economic justice depends on economic opportunity. Economic opportunity starts with successful businesses. Lawmakers need to have a renewed discussion with business owners, consumers, and organized labor to figure out how we can build a strong, lasting economy where economic opportunity is our measure of success.?

Jacob Daruvala also looks forward to motivating his fellow millennials to get involved in politics:

“The millennial generation is the most diverse and understanding generation the U.S. has ever seen.? The new youth progressive movement has the potential to be the greatest force for good in our country’s history.?
