CBN Tried To Hide Video Evidence Of Pat Robertson’s Homophobia, But We’ve Got It

Uncle Pat is off his meds again. I know that most of the people reading here are likely more than well aware of the crazy crap Pat Robertson spews from his throne over at?The 700 Club?on a regular basis, but this time, he seems to have gone too far, even for his own network, the radical right Christian Broadcasting Network.

Robertson spewed another bout of homophobic verbal diarrhea, this time, accusing gay people in San Francisco of deliberately spreading AIDS. Even though his co host, Terry Meeuwsen,?didn’t seem to want to belabor the subject, Robertson plowed on. He said:

“You know what they do in San Francisco, some in the gay comm.unity there they want to get people so if they got the stuff they’ll have a ring, you shake hands, and the ring’s got a little thing where you cut your finger.”

Meeuwsen asked:

“Really?”

Robertson replied:

“Yes, really.”

Shortly thereafter, CBN posted the episode online, but the part with these remarks were edited out.?Right Wing Watch?reliably kept the clip, though. The network forced YouTube to take it down, but many others posted it as well. Here it is, for your viewing pleasure:

Now, anyone who knows anything about the LGBT community, whether you are LGBT yourself, close to the movement, or close to someone who is, knows what a horrific battle we have fought against AIDS, how in the 80’s activists begged the government for help against this plague, and then- President Reagan refused to even speak its name. You know how absolutely despicable it is to take something so awful and accuse the community it has affected in the worst parts of its reign of terror of spreading it further. Shame on you, Pat Robertson.

When? The Atlantic?asked Robertson about the comments, he said that he:

“[…]regret[s] that my remarks had been misunderstood, but this often happens because people do not listen to the context of remarks which are being said.”

He added:

“In no wise [sic] were my remarks meant as an indictment of the homosexual community or, for that fact, to those infected with this dreadful disease.”

Anyone with a brain reading or watching these remarks knows that this is nothing but an attempt to backpedal. Nothing was taken out of context. There was no other way for this to be taken. Despicable, but true. He knows it, and his network knows it. That is why there is this frantic shuffle to squelch versions of that episode with these comments in it.

So! Whatcha got to say for yourself now, Uncle Pat? Even your own radical network thinks your brand of crazy is over the line this time, and that’s saying something. Time for you to retire, old man.
