Twerking into Infamy: Miley Cyrus, Pedo Bear, and Rape – The 2013 VMA’s

What do Miley Cyrus, Pedo Bear, and Rape all have in common? It’s appears to be a lot more than you might have ever considered. On Sunday night, Miley Cyrus performed her new single ?We Can’t Stop? at the 2013 VMA’s with millions of viewers watching. To say her number was risqu? would be a gross understatement; to say it was raunchy would be putting it mildly. Of course the media and pundits are all talking it up as if her performance was the best thing since The Beatles were on Ed Sullivan. Unfortunately, what they’re missing or failing to report are the actual ?suggestions? of her suggestive music and dance number ? pedophilia and rape.
No, I’m not crazy or a bible-beater. In fact, I had no idea about any of this until about 24 hours ago when I read this article ?Parents Television Council Blasts MTV’s VMAs Over Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga Performances?. In it I learned that Robin Thicke’s song, ?Blurred Lines?, is about the continuation of the perception that rape may not always be so because the woman an animal and in reality really wants it. Yeah, that’s right ? the biggest hit song of the summer is about the blurred lines between consensual sex and rape. So now we have a grown man, married and a father, singing about the ?vagueness? between sex and rape while a 20 year old, a former Disney child-star clad in a flesh colored bikini, bumps, twerks, and grinds on his groin area with him wearing a Beetlejuice get up. Now, I still didn’t really get the remaining innuendos until I started searching about the ?cute? teddy bears Miley was dancing with and came across the infamous Pedo Bear.

Apparently, Pedo Bear is gamer’s slang for a pedophile lurking on a site trying to entice kids to talk and play with them ? first online and then off line. Several game sites have banned the use of Pedo Bears because of its controversial meaning. Now, if you connect the dots ? Miley appeared on stage wearing a Bear face and dancing with stuffed bears to her song ?We Can’t Stop?. In this song, Miley sings about sex, drugs, and partying with lyrics like ?Everyone in line in the bathroom, trying to get a line in the bathroom? and ?Red cups and bodies everywhere? (read the full lyrics here). Yes, as you can see from the pictures, there is a slight difference between Miley’s bears and Pedo Bear, however there is no denying that when coupled with her acting history, her song, her performance, and her attire, she is suggesting something more lurid and depraved. Oh and guess what? In 2009, Pedo Bear was Miley Cyrus? #1 fan according to Buzzfeed. So 4 years ago, the Internet Mascot for pedophiles was Miley’s biggest fan ? classic!

There you have it. A 20 year old former Disney child-star singing a song about sex and drugs while dancing with a pedophile mascot who then bumps and grinds on a grown married man singing about the ?grey area? between consensual sex and rape. Where is the outrage? Why is this considered artistic? What do you think of Miley’s performance at the VMAs? Think it was okay? Risqu?? Raunchy? Would you want Miley for a babysitter?
