GOP Birthers, Impeachers Use August Recess Town Halls To Run Amuck (VIDEOS)

While President Obama takes an eight day break for relaxation and spending time with his family, Republicans are spending their five-week break between sessions to once again revive old, make-believe scandals for their campaigns. And to no one’s surprise, Rep. Blake Farenthold?(R-TX) has resurrected the long dead argument over President Obama’s eligibility, coupled with the word “impeachment.”

On Saturday, Farenthold?came out of the closet at a Civic Center in Luling, Texas during a town hall event. No, he didn’t come out as a homosexual. He came out as a “birther.” Birthers believe in a conspiracy theory that has been debunked over and over that President Obama is not a natural born citizen of the United States and therefore ineligible to be president.

While taking questions, an unidentified female constituent confronted Farenthold with what she claimed was tangible proof in hand of a felony. More or less, the woman claimed to be holding physical proof in hand that President Barack Obama is somehow ineligible to be President because of his allegedly forged birth certificate. Farenthold passively accepted the documents from the woman, but then quickly dismissed her claims … sort of.

Answering the woman, Farenthold replied:

I’ll certainly take a look at it. I think unfortunately the horse is already out of the barn on this, on the whole birth certificate issue. The original Congress … when his eligibility came up … should have looked into it, and they didn’t. I’m not sure how we fix it.

Unrelenting, the woman insisted that “a felony has been committed” and “there’s something very sinister going on here” because (argle-bargle-garble) birth certificate (argle-bargle-garble).

Unable to appease her, Farenthold further explained:

Here’s the issue. You tie into a question I get a lot. If everybody’s so unhappy with what the president’s done, why don’t you impeach him? I’ll give you a real frank answer about that.?If we were to impeach the president tomorrow, you could probably get the votes in the House of Representatives to do it. But it would go to the Senate and he wouldn’t be convicted. […]?What message do we send to America if we impeach Obama and he gets away with what he’s impeached for, is found innocent? What do we say then is okay?

Here’s a video from YouTube Politics, taken by a constituent who attended the town hall meeting:

When contacted about his comments during the town hall event, a representative for Rep. Farenthold, speaking on Farenthold’s behalf, stated that the congressman is standing by his claims, but refused to acknowledge him as a “birther.”

Last week, Rep. Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) faced a similar confrontation at a town hall event in Afton, OK when a woman identifying herself as “The Birther Queen” tried to introduce documents that had been presented last year by disreputable and discredited Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio that falsely claim that President Obama’s birth certificate is a fraud.

Mullin refused to accept the documents, but tried to answer the woman’s question by stating:

We lost that argument Nov. 6. We had four years to get that proven. We didn’t. We re-elected him. So that’s a dead issue. I believe what you’re saying and I don’t support this president whatsoever, but ma’am, we lost Nov. 6. We had the opportunity to get another president in there.

After trying to yell out the contents of the documents over Rep. Mullin’s reply, the woman eventually stormed out of the event angrily stating that President Obama “is above the law.”

Here’s another video of the meeting from ThinkProgress:

A representative for Rep. Mullin has definitively stated ?that he is not a birther and never supported the issue, and claims that he “just misspoke.”

What is happening here is that Dr. Frankenstein has lost control of the Monster he created, and he doesn’t know how to handle it. Republicans in town hall events all over the country right now are being confronted with the far out fringe conspiracies that their own party officials created.? Even more telling is that while many Republicans have completely renounced those ideas, other “fringe” Republicans are still churning out the argle-bargle-garble and hurting their own candidates by doing it. In the last eight months, Republicans have engaged in one consistent effort after another to destroy themselves.

This past January, Rep. Steve Stockman (R-TX) threatened to impeach President Obama should The White House implement new gun regulations through executive action. Stockman was also one of 12 House Republicans that refused to support Rep. John Boehner (R-OH) in a vote for Speaker of the House because he felt Boehner was “too harsh” on conservatives.

In June, Rep. Walter Jones (R-NC) announced he would introduce articles of Impeachment against President Obama over possible U.S. military action in Syria. Jones, a divisive anti-war proponent, made a similar threat in 2012 over Syria. Although he had voted for both wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, he became a very outspoken anti-war activist in the latter part of the Bush years, and even supported a move to impeach former Vice President Dick Cheney.

In May, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minnesota) told a crowd at a Tea Party rally that she felt that President Obama should be impeached over the now debunked IRS Scandal. ?Bachmann is now being investigated by the House Ethics Committee, along with former Representative and presidential candidate Ron Paul, and she is also facing investigations by the FBI and FEC.. If found in violation by the House Ethics Committee, Bachmann could be facing heavy fines, expulsion from the house, or prison.

Even non-politicians, like Donald Trump, are back in the spotlight trying to catch a piece of the action from the left over scraps getting tossed out of the ring during the fight. Whatever the reason or the politician, there is no longer any rhyme, reason, solidarity, or even leadership in the Republican Party. Yes, kids. There is nothing left to do, but make the popcorn, sit back and watch the implosion.

So, Reince…how is that rebranding effort going?? Are you still in with the “Stupid Party?”

"...And so I say to all of you here and to all in the nation tonight that those who appeal to you to hold on to the past do so at the cost of denying you your future. This great rich, restless country can offer opportunity and education and hope to all--all, black and white, North and South, sharecropper and city dweller. These are the enemies: poverty, ignorance, disease. They are our enemies, not our fellow man, not our neighbor. And these enemies too--poverty, disease and ignorance--we shall overcome." ~excerpt from speech by President Lyndon B Johnson, given two days after the start of the Selma Marches in an event that became known as Bloody Sunday.
