Stephen Colbert Mocks Tea Party Protest Agenda

Members of the Tea Party group Freedom Works may not be flattered about the attention they received on Monday’s episode of the Colbert Report ; However, there is no harm in a little constructive criticism. Steve Colbert announced the Freedom Works group is stepping up its commitment to repeal the Affordable Care Act and plans on ?holding “Vietnam style” protests across the country.

According to The Raw Story,?Stephen Colbert added his own unique take to the situation. He said:

Yeah, people forget that about the Vietnam War. Those hippies were just fiscal conservatives protesting a ?Big Government? program. I don’t want to see a whole generation forced to fight infection at some nearby county hospital only to come home in one piece with something to live for.

So in true Vietnam Era style, Freedom Works?is calling for all Americans to burn their Obamacare?cards.? Colbert is quick to point out there are no Obamacare cards. What the group Freedom Works is protesting is people having health insurance.? The Affordable Care Act will require all people to show proof of health insurance, so in a “genius” move by the Tea Party backed group, they are encouraging people not to buy health insurance and if they have health insurance to drop it.? Feeling a bit squeamish about giving up your health insurance? A Washington Post article suggests paying cash for doctor appointments or “going outside of the ‘exchange'” and buying a high-quality, high-deductible health plan? that meets your needs. The first option is only for the rich who do not need affordable care, and the second option really seems to me like the same thing as buying health insurance. As usual or should I say as expected, the Tea Party has put very little thought into what they are asking the American public to do, because all they care about is upsetting President Obama.

The Tea Party wants the public to refuse to buy health insurance, and?if you have health insurance?to drop it. They are?asking us to give up our health coverage and possibly?our health care. They say we can just pay cash for it. Just hope you do not have a heart attack while protesting. The pricing guide for University Hospitals of Cleveland Case Medical Center shows that a Cardio room is $5,395.00 per day. If a patient’s heart attack is mild enough to where a cardio room is unnecessary, a semi-private standard room can be used as an alternative for $1855.00 a day.? There is a section on the website where patients can apply for charity care if the medical bill is unaffordable without insurance, but members of the Tea Party brigade will not be able to apply for it because that would be taking a handout and that would be wrong.

The more I write this the more I think it has to be a joke. The Tea Party claims to love America and all American’s, yet it insists?that we?be able to carry firearms to shoot each other with?and that?we show loyalty to our country by refusing health insurance. I am really starting to wonder if the Tea Party isn’t the group “waging war” on America.

Message to America: when the Tea Party starts talking turn up the music really loud and chill. They will go away soon, possibly from illness due to lack of healthcare.
