NBC To Air Unauthorized ‘Life Of Hillary Clinton’ Miniseries

NBC plans to air a biographical miniseries regarding the life of Hillary Clinton. On Saturday, NBC Entertainment Chairmen Robert Greenblatt made the announcement at a session of the Television Critics Association.

The four-hour miniseries will center on Clinton from the 1998 Monica Lewinsky scandal all the way up to the present time. According to The New York Times, the NBC release states:

The script will begin with Clinton living in the White House as her husband is serving the second of his two terms as president. In the years following, she would eventually become a United States senator, run for president and, ultimately, serve the country as secretary of state.

The direction and script of the project, which has yet to be written, will be under the purview of Courtney Hunt. Hunt’s film debut of Frozen River an Oscar nomination, two Independent Spirit nominations, and a Satellite Award nod for the Film. Hunt also accepted a Grand Jury Prize for Dramatic Filmmaking at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival for Frozen River.

Diane Lane has been cast as Hillary Clinton. Lane is probably most noted for her 2002 work in Unfaithful, and more recently was cast in the 2013 film Man of Steel, as Martha Kent.

“Hillary” will be an account of the personal life and decisions of the former first lady as a wife, mother, politician, and cabinet member. Greenblatt states that the series would include aspects that are both critical and supportive of Hillary Clinton, and would include her 2008 presidential campaign. The air date has not yet been determined, but Greenblatt hopes the project to be completed before any announcement of a 2016 presidential campaign.

Nick Merrill, a representative for the former Secretary of State, has stated that Clinton was unaware of the project and has declined to comment otherwise.

Greenblatt states, “We literally just closed the deal.” He doesn’t expect her to comment about the project and says, “I don’t think she will endorse it.”

"...And so I say to all of you here and to all in the nation tonight that those who appeal to you to hold on to the past do so at the cost of denying you your future. This great rich, restless country can offer opportunity and education and hope to all--all, black and white, North and South, sharecropper and city dweller. These are the enemies: poverty, ignorance, disease. They are our enemies, not our fellow man, not our neighbor. And these enemies too--poverty, disease and ignorance--we shall overcome." ~excerpt from speech by President Lyndon B Johnson, given two days after the start of the Selma Marches in an event that became known as Bloody Sunday.
