North Dakota State Fair Distributes Fake Fetus Dolls To Kids

fake fetus dolls distributed at north dakota state fair

North Dakota’s State Fair offers a variety of different sorts of entertainment. There are performances by well known artists, games, rides, and the like. However, this year, parents got the shock of their lives- and not in a good way. Along with the usual toys, candy, and other assorted goodies in the gift bags for children, there were- wait for it- fake fetus dolls, or?toy fetuses.?Yep, you heard that right.

And, further, not only did they get fleshy, lifelike toy fetuses along with their candy at the state fair’s parade, they also got pamphlets on abortion. The worst part of this is that the group giving the toy fetuses away, Minot Right To Life, didn’t ask parental permission first. Parents were rightfully creeped out, as well as outraged. One said:

It was really disturbing watching children run around with them.

Well, no shit. Little kids should not be assaulted with this stuff at family events, and most of the parents interviewed on the matter agree. Another parent, Amber Menendez, a mother of three who attended the state fair parade, lamented about her basic parental rights being violated. She said:

My kids can read. I shouldn’t have to explain to five and six-year olds what abortion is at a family event. I doubt these people would be allowed to hand out condoms to little kids. But it’s okay to talk to them about abortion without my permission?

Of course, that is the basic problem here. The creepiness and inappropriate nature of this crap is just the tip of the iceberg. Parents should talk to their kids about things like this. Perfect strangers with a warped political agenda have no business imposing their values on other people’s children.

Worst Job Ever.
Worst Job Ever.

The most disgusting part of all is, perhaps, that there is an entire store that manufactures pro- life materials, which is where the fetuses came from. They are called “Precious Ones,” and are made by Heritage House, a self- described “Pro-Life Supply Store.”

These shenanigans likely have something to do with the fact that North Dakota’s controversial and extreme six-week abortion ban bill was just blocked. Right wingers are up in arms about this all around that state, and, in some areas, the nation, to absolutely no one’s surprise.

As for me? I don’t expect to change the minds of people who would go to such extremes. However, the day anyone pulls a stunt like that with any kid in my family, they’re going to curse the day they joined this crazy movement to restrict women’s rights. These people have gone beyond lacking basic decency into the land of the morbidly absurd. This is disgusting beyond anything I’ve ever heard of with regards to this issue. Then again, as the right wing moves closer and closer to the edge of that proverbial cliff, I would expect nothing less, I suppose.

Now, of course pro- choicers tried to get to the bottom of this. However, when they called, the only response they received was that organizers of the event were “looking into the issue” according to?Jezebel.?When contacted by Jezebel’s staff, they declined to comment.

Well, of course they did. They can’t possibly explain away such a gross travesty so quickly. Something tells me the organizers of that fair sanctioned this nonsense, and now that their feet are to the fire, they don’t know what to do . My advice? North Dakotans, if you are truly bothered by this, lean on them. Organize boycotts of the fair and anyone associated. Make sure this never happens again. No matter one’s views on controversial issues about things like abortion, they never?have the right to indoctrinate the children of strangers, ever. I think that is something we can all agree on, no?
