Climate Change Is Real And Americans Are Beginning To Believe

A study released in April of 2013 by George Mason University’s Center for Climate Change Communication has found that 58% of us now believe that “global warming is affecting the weather here in the US” and 85% report experiencing one or more type of extreme weather in the last year. This perception is in part because 2012 was the year Mother Nature had it out for the U.S. No country on Earth rivaled the U.S. in 2012 in terms of extreme weather and climate events, as one rare episode after another rocked the country.” (Source: Climate Central)

Climate change predictions have proved quite accurate according to another study published in the Journal Nature Geoscience.

“The study is the first of its kind because reviewing a climate forecast meaningfully requires at least 15 years of observations to compare against. Assessments based on shorter periods are prone to being misleading due to natural short-term variability in the climate.” (Source: The Guardian)

“Unfortunately, researchers say, this higher level of global-warming awareness is not translating into political action.” (Source:?Canada.com) Even though the general awareness of climate change is increasing, the leaders of the Republican Party are not changing their stance on it, putting them even further out of touch with their base and the majority of Americans.

Political and personal action makes sense because humans are responsible for these changes according to 97 out of 100 climate experts. In light of this, Fox News Channel’s continuing insistence that there are differences of opinion in the scientific community is particularly harmful and irresponsible. We need to quit pretending that this is a partisan issue that is up for debate and make the changes needed to begin to heal our planet.
